After attending the MISA Innovation Conference and hearing the stories from other teachers, we were inspired to adjust our classroom set-up to better suit the 21st century learner.
This involved several small steps at first - reducing the number of desks in the room, creating collaborative work areas, providing different seating options, and the creation of a reading area just to name a few.
Through our MISA grant, we were able to work together with Bishop Tonnos students to build two new seating/working areas for the classroom. Students can now work standing if they choose to as the tables are fully adjustable. As well, the white board surface of the tables allows students make their thinking visible.
Next year, we intend to continue the journey as we, together with the students, look for ways to make help make the learning environment dynamic.
